@bertpalmer Well, the 4 would give you an extra 100 hours standby battery life over the 4S (!)

dwiskus As someone named Dave, I’m hesitant of any technology that talks to me.

@jbirdiebird No. I’m watching Blake’s 7.

@andybeebristol “Luckily”, when I do that it’s normally quickly apparent, when the cookbook catches fire.

via Echofon in reply to andybeebristol

@guriben I will postpone that for a little while, though, as I’m desperately trying not to get distracted by new shiny things at the moment!

via Echofon in reply to guriben

@guriben @MediaBen If I had the money, I’d try both. For the moment, think I’m going to have to stick with the iPhone.

via Echofon in reply to guriben

@chrisphin I’d estimate another ten hours or so.

via Echofon in reply to chrisphin

@lizpscully Also, if it needs an internet connection to to do the dictation, I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to beat it even if it’s okayish.

via Echofon in reply to lizpscully

@lizpscully No, I’m an average-to-good typist, I’ve just had many, many dismal experiences with voice recognition.

via Echofon in reply to lizpscully

@isaiah *beep* “Deleting all greyhounds.”

via Echofon in reply to isaiah

@bertpalmer Won’t bother me much, anyway. The camera’s already enough reason to upgrade from the 3GS for me.

via Echofon in reply to bertpalmer

@MediaBen Wouldn’t you prefer a nice game of chess?

via Echofon in reply to benhorsleyco

@bertpalmer It’s even possible that it works brilliantly. If you have an American accent and are in a quiet room.

via Echofon in reply to bertpalmer

@bertpalmer Everything always looks great at the keynote… Before Apple bought Siri, it wasn’t available in the UK, so never tried it. Hm.

via Echofon in reply to bertpalmer

My normal speech recognition experience: “What’s the weather like at Heathrow?” “*beep*. Now playing audiobook ‘Wuthering Heights’.”

via Echofon

It seems unlikely that someone’s come up with a voice interface that’s better than my typing, even on a phone.

via Echofon

@willsmith (Especially for non-American accents.)

via Echofon in reply to willsmith

@willsmith I have been greatly disappointed by any voice thing I’ve ever tried. Can’t quite imagine someone’s got it right at last.

via Echofon in reply to willsmith

@MediaBen Yeah. They are the antidote to the standard “let’s just shovel in MOAR MEGAPIXELZ!!11!!1”

via Echofon in reply to benhorsleyco

@MediaBen Indeedy. The camera would be my main reason for finally upgrading this 3GS, I think.

via Echofon in reply to benhorsleyco

@g_e_r_b I think I’m in for a long wait for iCloud music sync and for Match. Sulk. Hoping for something to upgrade to from my 3GS, at least.

via Echofon in reply to g_e_r_b

@g_e_r_b None of this stuff hits other countries very fast, does it? I’m still waiting to rent TV shows on my Apple TV.

via Echofon in reply to g_e_r_b

@r0bb1eh @stillawake @Jorence A few of the CS ones are definitely fully available for free; doubt that’s true of the majority, though.

via Echofon in reply to Back2GolStriker

@stillawake @Jorence I’m sure it depends on a lot of things; luckily I found the Harvard courses and lecturers both very good indeed.

via Echofon in reply to stillawake

@matt_fwyalchen What, no pocket protector? Living dangerously! amazon.co.uk/Oxford®-Pocket-Protectors-Grained-White/dp/B002XJTTYY/

via Echofon in reply to matt_fwyalchen

@Jorence @stillawake Yeah. I got most of my web programming skills from Harvard, too, which is why I’m starting there for phone programming.

via Echofon

@stillawake I’ve also heard good things about Stanford’s stuff. “iTunes U” is a good place to browse.

via Echofon in reply to stillawake

@hayles I was up, showered, dressed and working by 9:30. Scary, but true. We’ll see how long I keep that up. And no cake (yet!)

via Echofon in reply to hayles

@stillawake At the moment, I’m ploughing through course E-76: cs76.tv/2011/spring/

via Echofon in reply to stillawake

@stillawake Harvard have released a bunch of their classes (for external learners) as video. Really good stuff.

via Echofon in reply to stillawake

@Jorence Today has been my first trial day of self-discipline. It’s gone suspiciously well.

via Echofon

Today I have mostly been watching Harvard Extension Schools classes and getting a development environment together.

via Echofon

@Swishrelic Experiment! I finally found that mine will go away if I down a pint of lukewarm water. Works every time.

via Echofon in reply to Swishrelic

There really should be a first-year introductory course to NOT STANDING IN THE DAMN WAY.

via Tweetbot for iOS

@archidave Ah. Yes. Just looked back through your. Er. Stream. As it were. *sympathy*

via Echofon in reply to archidave

@archidave Not too badly, ta. Today scheduled as my first proper work/study day of my “sabbatical”; we’ll see how *that* goes… You?

via Echofon in reply to archidave

@rbrwr Ta. Bloody Twitter. It’s bad enough that they shorten everything whether it needs it or not, but to do it with a broken shortener…

via Echofon in reply to rbrwr

rbrwr @gothick Twitter is cutting that link up at the @ sign… the short link flic.kr/ps/Bw8dU might work better.

Guten morgen! Is all good in the world of Cookwi(t)ch this morning?

I hope all you Star Wars fans are watching Avanaut’s photostream. flickr.com/photos/40195501@N06/
