@ahnlak ‘Course, if I wanted really cheap, I’d shove it on fysh.org, which I already pay a nominal fee for.
@Lillput @matthew_roach much as I like Patrick Stewart, he doesn’t Stoke me as very Harshaw-y.
@Bristol_flickL Hypothetically. And not specifically _Stranger_, just Jubal Harshaw in general.
@clookinternet Will do, ta.
@penelopeelse Well, prod me at some later point if you’re all packaged up and still need a hand :)
Sudden revelation: Leo Laporte is the movie adaptation of Jubal Harshaw.
@penelopeelse I could have a stab, but you have the time it takes a pizza to cook.
@foxc I don’t even know what a steamed bun is.
@nickdonnelly @philipletts Also, no iBooks in UK means it misses about three quarters of the point, for me.
@nickdonnelly @philipletts Nope. No plans to buy one at present. Want one, to some degree, but I think it might be bad for me.
@nickdonnelly That’s what I figured he meant, but maybe I’m giving too much benefit-of-the-doubt!
@nickdonnelly Yeah, but wasn’t Windows 95 the first one where it wasn’t optional? Remember having to type “win” from a DOS prompt?
@ahnlak Cool. Will bear that in mind! Need to have a think, as I have several other things hosted on GoDaddy & various other places.
@matthew_roach I’ll have to take your word for that. I’ve only ever seen him play one character.
@ahnlak Last month, sum total: 100Mb. Is that good or bad? I really have no idea…
@ahnlak I have absolutely no idea. Bearing in mind it’s basically text and has about three active users, I imagine the answer is “naff all”
@ahnlak …and you get what you pay for. Also, I should’ve backed up my own DBs before I kicked off the upgrade, not relied on them anyway!
@ahnlak You have. On t’other hand, I want to pay as little as possible for UniqueSentence, because it is — let’s admit it — a toy :)
Ho hum. My databases are still MIA. Awaiting a new reply from GoDaddy.
Hmm. Why isn’t my S3 connection working? It was yesterday.
@paulahillier What, like you weren’t worried about me before?
Trying my luck at winning another dress.
@Phooto Must’ve been 15 when I read that; it would have been for a GCSE coursework essay I did comparing Bradbury and Aldiss short stories!
@Phooto Ahh — right. I’m probably missing things, because I’ve still not got to a decent screen to watch the whole thing yet!
@Phooto aha! It was Ray Bradbury: http://bit.ly/bbBlh0
@philmonger Ah, cool, didn’t realise that.
Aha! Uniquesentence is back. Looks like GoDaddy must be working on my support ticket right now.
@philmonger Yeah, but the Ordnance Survey won’t do that.
@philmonger Don’t worry; I’m sure the digital economy bill will shut that down soon enough, regardless of legality.
I beg to differ: http://twitpic.com/1ccgpj
@Phooto Cool. Was there a Wyndham or Aldiss story about/featuring that practice? Sure it rings a bell. Will watch properly later, off-phone!
Just in time for the boat. http://twitpic.com/1cccua
@g_e_r_b It’s because we’re all outside your house, waiting to shout “Boo!”
Is there an economic advantage for all technical helpdesks to not actually bother reading the first email they receive from anyone?
Okay. Have backup as of last Sunday (thank you, cron) and emails with all sentences submitted since as a disaster recover plan. Good.
Gah. GoDaddy have moved my hosting for UniqueSentence, but disappeared the database in the process. Now, where did I put that backup?
@hayles Sadly, I didn’t win. Probably just as well; they don’t strike me as the kind of place that does size 20…
@hayles Hurrah! And it’s casual wear day at our place, too.
@ahnlak Not brilliant, no. On t’other hand, think I paid about £20 for two years, so I’m not expecting flying ninja support levels…
@Swishrelic Yeah, having a bath will relax you and make you feel better about the camera.
@KaveyF Yes, I’m quite thirsty, too. Perhaps I shouldn’t have emptied that entire tin of anchovies over the pizza I had.
@xabl But… But… Surely someone is still _wrong_ out there? You can’t give up now!
@hayles Oh, yeah. Must go to bed soon, actually, so I can make the absolute most of it. I may try to stay in bed until midday tomorrow.
@KaveyF Well, it seems to be the way most helpdesks are run these days. From MPs to GoDaddy. Said the still-databaseless-geek :(
@KaveyF Oh, but I guess what that means is his PA is a professional at bashing things out fast, whether they’re an actual answer or not.
@KaveyF Oh, I dunno: “…his proudest achievement in Parliament has been responding to 90% of letters within three working days.”
@KaveyF …and that @PaulBurstow has said this since then, too, which is promising: http://twitter.com/PaulB…
@KaveyF Haven’t had a specific reply from mine yet, but I see from Facebook that he’s meeting a lead campaigner about DEB tomorrow, at least
@KaveyF What were you asking about?
@bananza Should I phone you up about it when I get back to my desk, just to make sure?
@matthew_roach Surely there’s an app for that? (Really, sure I heard about one specifically good at multiple account handling.)
